My ISP is stopping free email

@Megabyte ,

If you are not familiar with domain name providers and hosting companies then I can help you buying the domain then looking for space bought for one month.

The whole lot could cost you about US$ 30-40
You can have as many mail boxes (aliases) you wish.
Play with it for a month then decide to pay or not 43*3 = £129/year for your ISP for your mailboxes.
Don't like it? Forget it, you would still have your domain name for a year.

(A year ago I could help you with providing the needed space, unfortunately I don't have it anymore)

Can you peeps explain the kinds of cost for using a domain name like hiding.uk

I gather that these are the essential steps:

1) purchase the domain name
.... and also make sure it's controlled by you and not a domain name buying company.

2) pay for a basic package with a domain name hosting company that is essentially only for email.
.... Do any hosting companies do sleazy things like taking control of the domain name?

3) renew the domain name with a fee yearly
4) pay for the hosting provider monthly

Then megabyte could have email addresses like megabyte@give.me.a.hiding.uk

Have I got the right end of the stick here?

Correct.

Namecheap and Godaddy are reliable for that.

Yes they do. Don't ever accept a domain name from a hosting provider.
(They can't take control of a domain name purchased from another place.
You change the name servers and they lose control)

3) renew the domain name with a fee yearly
Correct. Costs about $20

4) pay for the hosting provider monthly
Usually paying for it yearly costs less but do it only if the service from them is good.

Then megabyte could have email addresses like megabyte@give.me.a.hiding.uk
A little difficult to have such address with the subdomains involved in it but my guess is that it's possible.

Thanks for all the info misi.

What sort of fee is involved for a year? Say a fairly elementary package where swift response and access to the web host for the website isn't needed.

I don't know how they implement that myself, but I also thought it is doable. Something to read about when I buy myself a new brain.

You couldn't believe how little sleep I have had and for how long.

The special was around $140 for three years without any additional services. I was clicking and checking for a while and a popup appeared that offered it even more cheaply - 3 years for the price of 2.

If they provide POP email rather than IMAP email then no backups are needed of the site, and there's a free tool for Windows to backup IMAP anyway.

It's interesting stuff there misi. :thumbs_up

Than's Misi. I've had a look at Godaddy - they seem cheap for the hosting side of things :happy

Does that apply to godaddy as well?
Just as a precaution: Yes
Buy your domain from them and choose someone else to host it.

I apologise for my first post to mention namecheap's email service.
That was rather to show how expensive Mega's ISP is.

One more very important thing to remember: buy and use whoisguard with your domain name.

I have found this company to register my domain with - does it look ok to you?

https://wormx.org/domains/registration/
I can't see how much would they charge for the plans.

Email Forwarding FREE! / 1 Year/s Get emails forwarded to alternate email addresses of your choice so that you can monitor all from a single account.
Highly suspicious!
Why for only a year?
For what else would they charge you in the future?

As I'm not in Australia, Zuver wouldn't host a .uk domain, or would they? :happy
They would, without any problem.

I've attached a screenshot of the shopping basket (not my real domain obviously!)

I'd renew it every year
