Ah! I just remembered anothing thing. The cameras aren't always loaded, the flashes still go though, as a deterrent/scare factor.

Guess describes what they do in Vic too, TTBOMK. I looked at the vid again - the first one might have been a hair trigger and the second flash would show you were stopped.
The second intersection showed you were in the intersection on amber so that's not an issue, unless you were flashed for doing over 60 etc... ??

Yup, but I can't afford any tickets so for me speeding isn't on the radar, so to speak. :happy

And the amber, for once it didn't turn red as I approached, they usually do when I'm right on them as in the last one.

Everyone does know that the 'amber' cycle is timed for the speed limit, don't they? So the distance back from the stop line travelled at that speed is where you should be able to safely stop from at the beginning of the amber so that stop happens before or as it turns red. The further back from the stop line to that point is then critical to your speed/distance as to safe or unsafe stopping or proceeding through.

Obviously if you were further back you speed up to get through greatly increasing your chances of not only a red light ticket, but a speeding ticket, another one for unsafe or dangerous driving and a damn good chance of high speed T-Boning some innocent soul.

Rant over.

Ask for advice from your lawyer on your phone while in this situation. :rolleyes1:

I was driving sedately when the amber light lit and I was too near to stop safely, and I sped up. I got a ticket for the speed - when I should have just continued normally. $260 thank you.

Many years ago in a similar situation my wife stopped.
Behind her the car could not stop , the result: total damage to her car.

You have paid $260.
For her did not cost a cent because it wasn't her fault, the insurance company paid for it...
...but not to have a car for weeks, arguing with the other driver, insurance company, etc...

I'm not preaching but we all know how different those situations could have been.

The stupidly dangerous thing about these red light/speed cameras at intersections is that I check my speedo first on approaching a green light rather than danger. That scares me, priorities are wrong.

I'm gunna love Snake Valley. On a dirt road, no traffic lights, no speed humps, no rush to get anywhere, no traffic noise, no planes flying low over these mountains, just quiet, peacefull birds and 2 barking and happy Golden Retrievers and us.

I've lived here too long, it was a dirt road and now a major shortcut between 2 localities. I've seen Burwood Hwy go from a great road to travel on to a road I've detested to have contend with it's continual addition of lights, slow spots, bad design changes. The only other way in and out was Glenfern Road, the back way, now a major access road to Stud or Wellington roads, housing estates, traffic lights. I might miss the house I had built, I might miss my acre in the Dandenongs, the lovely days I've had here, but I ain't gunna miss the ruined environment I chose it for one little bit.

There's also the fact that the car was damaged - and repairs aren't always 100%. Water leaks etc. Structural damage.

Chris is right when he says priorities are wrong, checking speedo for speed all the time and not watching the road. :furious
