Does this deal sound too good to be true?

What is the catch?

I'm very tempted..... :?

Other exchanges have better plans so it's not too good to be true.

TPG: on certain exchanges
$30 ADLS2+ unlimited plan, with $30 home phone, and if you use the phone then $10 gives you unlimited local and national calls. That's $70. Or $60 just for unlimited internet which includes phone rental.

Guess which plan I am on... :thumbs_up

Here is the linky
http://go.bigpond.com/broadband/ultimate-cable/

Select "200GB Prices" tab

They do count uploads, but with 200GB, it's not a problem..

What I don't understand with the plans at the end of that link is this:

On the $79.95 per month plan, the actual total monthly charge is $111.90 less a couple of possible $10.00 per month discounts.. :?

The other consideration is, is the supplied modem any good?

Also, is it a router/modem or would I have to plug my existing modem/router into it. I only need wireless these days, not cable connection..

Does it say on the leaflet that phone service is included? The guff seems to say that you need a 'full service' phone on the same bill as the broadband - and 24 month contract.

I can't find any definition of "full service phone"... I have Home line budget and I don't rent a handset from Telstra.. this is so frustrating..

I'll attempt to scan the offer mailed to me and upload it here.

Edit: If this link works, this is the bundle less a monthly discount of $10.00. http://www.telstra.com.au/bundle_save/home-bundles.html

Line rental plus cable modem and cable service...

Edit #2. The link doesn't work correctly.. :?

Edit #3. According to broadband choice, full service means you pay your money for both local and long distance calls directly to Telstra.

Haha I was a bit late, but yea that's it, if you can send and receive std and local calls, without an override code for another company.

The cable modem should be fine, as it is a network gateway with router/wifi

If you deselect the T box, it will save you an additional $11 a month(unless you want it)

Thanks for the confirmation, Spyke. I definitely won't be opting to T box, unless it has some really good PVR functions...the initial reviews I read about it weren't at all good :?

I tend to stay away from Whirlpool these days, but I went back and found a couple of threads about this exact plan so its looking good. Reports on the supplied modem however, are troubling.. :eek

Evidently it's a cable system, not ADSL so it needs the new cable modem.

It still seems to me as though the price will be $79 + $23 for a phone service. Divide the total by 24 months and it comes to $111 per month

Foxi, where did you get the + $23.00 for the line rental? This is the sort of thing that I'm guarding against and why I'm wary, but everything I've read to date implies that the cost is $78.00 per month including the line rental... :?

No, this is a cable service, not ADSL and the cable modem can only be obtained from the cable ISP. The modems are locked to the particular ISP and can't be purchased from a shop.

No way would I pay for such service.(Until NBN)

Check the total for 24 months, and divide that by 24. I got around $111 per month.

I pulled the $23 figure out of the air, as that is how much the homeline budget was.
