Need more quota

biggles

Guru of all things Emu !!
I have only 1GB of quota left and still 3.25 days until rollover. For only the second time since I got BB around 71/2 years ago, I'm going to be shaped. To think of all those months where I didn't even come close to using all my quota and now this... :crying:

My current plan is for around $51.00 per month, I get ADSL 1 and 20GB with Node.

I'm also paying around $23.00 per month to Telstra for a line rental, Home Budget one. The bastards just increased the price by about 2 bucks per month. I never make voice calls from the house, in fact, I don't even have a handset plugged in. :eek

As I turn more and more to the web, in particular YouTube in preference to television for entertainment, I'm going to need to more quota. More speed, ADSL 2 would be nice, but I definiately need more quota. What I don't want to do is spend more than the total I'm currently spending of around $74.00 per month in total.

I've search BB Choice several times and also gone to various ISP's websites, but can't find a plan that suits me. Bigpond cable is tempting, but my account number doesn't have enough digits in it for me to get cable. I think that is something to do with their billing system and could be changed, but I haven't made any direct enquiries yet.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

b.

I get 100 Gig ADSL2+ non package for $39.90 plus cc fee making it $41.15 a month, with our old mates aaNet. On Telstra homeline Budget. I am on a Broadband Next DSLAM at the local exchange which is less than 1/2 K away.

Look for Exetel, aaNet,TPG plans to be able to get the quota you need.

Look for node's datablocks when you need service reliability and don't want to increase your regular 20GB quota.

I have to say misi, that service reliability with TPG has been excellent.

I did have an issue at one time but a forum post and emails to forum admin and it was all sorted. That was a couple of years ago now.

I don't download much a lot of the time but the connection has been up all the time, bar 2 occasions that I can think of. About the same as I had with aanet.

So if everything goes normally then you're in like Flynn. :thumbs_up

Node's reliability has been questionable for me for several months. I found that on more than a dozen occassions, between 2:00pm and 2:10pm, I had no internet connection. All the modem lights were on and steady, but only by rebooting my modem could I get back online. It was happening about 3 times per week. It has happened several times since, but not during the stated times. :eek2

fwiw, I re-boot my modem/router each Wednesday as part of my backup routine. My files on my lappy are continuously backed up to my NAS, but I backup my iPhone on Wednesdays, update my TomTom gps etc.

I lost connection only yesterday around 8:30am too.

TPG doesn't look like an option in my area. :tearful

What is your exchange b? Cranbourne?

As for the modem and rebooting - it has happened one time to me and the fault was with the modem, and rebooting fixed it.

I have a batch file called RBM.bat (stands for reboot modem) that uses telnet to log into the modem and perform a reboot, without me needing to touch a web browser. A handy tool.

My billion modem sometimes needs a reboot too, as the downstream attenuation falls below 6db...

It's also possible to schedule a batch file once a day.

Hi foxi,

yes, cranbourne is my exchange.

RE modem. I reboot the modem but turning it off for 10 seconds and then turning it back on. One of the downsides to this is that everytime I do it, I have to go through all the stuffing around of setting up my wireless multi-function again as it appears not to be able to use a static ip. :tearful Its a real pita.

Internode.
I have had BIG problems with my connection a few weeks ago.
DNS problem. "Contact your ISP".
I could use Skype but could not browse the Net.
Again.again and again...
Checking WP: no one else had similar problem from Node.
I was lucky not to open a thread there.
Took days to find the problem.
The cause: an iPhone app.
Whenever I synced that app through my PC (iTunes) my browsers became dead after that.
Solution: removing that app (spreadsheet) from my iPhone solved the DNS problem I had.

I see. Can't you give the printer a name and use that in the Windows setup? It wouldn't matter what IP address it got.

Owing to the fact that this printer is wireless and therefore is not connected to a pc, I find that I'm all at sea in doing anything other than just using the supplied software.. :tearful There is a utility program called Update IP Address that came with it, but I have to connect via USB to use it. Often, I get multiple copies of that printer in windows.. :eek2 and so have to remove the excess ones.

Have you been here to get an overview? Enter your phone number and it will show a list.

Been there a few times foxi, and I find it incomplete and confusing nowadays. Too many 'holes' in its data.. Bigpond is looking the most promising atm... it appears that I can get 50GB but uploads are counted, for the same price that I'm currently paying to Node.. only ADSL 1 though :tearful

Just one more thing about those random disconnections:

I'm searching for a portable(cordless) phone for my mum.
Couple of days ago I saw one written on it: Wi-Fi friendly

Does it ring a bell?

The only phone I have in my house is my iPhone. I dispensed with a landline phone about four years ago when I bought my Nokia 6300 Classic. This is one reason I'm keen to rid myself of the landline in its entirety if I can save a few bucks by doing so... to not have a handset plugged in must be driving telemarketers nuts... :angelhalo (yeah I know, the dialing is done by computer.. damn.)
