NBN: Changing ISP from Internode to Telstra

I've got the final notice from Telstra: 28th of March they will disconnect my phone.
Checking the offers from ISPs Telstra's was tempting, signed up to it.

For $73 I'll get :
Free installation
Free wireless modem
50GB of data
25Mb of speed
Phone service

The contract is for two years.

Internode is an excellent ISP but their offer was too expensive:
For $55 plus phone for $30 I could get:
No free modem
30GB of data
25Mb of speed

That's the ultimatum! I'm not sure how much data I use these days, but it makes me think of the days of aaNet where I had a 10 GB and then 20 GB plan, I think.

Does Telstra count uploads too? (I'm sure that they will...)

You are right:

Data in both directions is metered

My upload is minimal, 1-5 GB per month.

My current data limit is 30GB, I'm very comfortable with it.

I'm not sure how much data I use - probably less than 10 GB a month, but I sporadically get some large media things.

Netlimiter used to be a fantastic tool for metering data, by program, by time, by process, and the free version did all that.
Now it doesn't work in Windows 7/8 but they might fix it again.

That probably accounts for the speed degradation seeing the last ping ain't brilliant but isn't all that bad.

Maybe all that rain we had recently got into and giving you the pits.
