Seems this is our last version of vBulletin.(3.8.4 PL1,maybe some security update later on)
There are some crazy changes for upgrading our forum.
I like vBulletin but because of the license changes cannot afford its upgrades any longer.
Keep the current 3.8.x and then ... Bye-bye vB.

IPB is affordable but absolutely different from vB.
I have a testforum with it,but to convert our forum to it was a failure.
It has been removed.

Can we migrate to one of the free forums softwares?

We don't really seem to use any advanced features and maybe the free ones will work just as well.

No,Foxi.
vB is safe. Any security holes,the patch is arriving in a few days.
Look at the aaNet forum. For weeks it is running in an infected state,no one knows how it's been infected,
how to repair.
We do not have many members,but I would not like anyone's computer to be infected because of a security hole.
When the bad guys find it we are not going to be the first to be attacked,and when someone wants to attack it's too late,the patch is already there,
With a free software it could take months to make the software safe again.

I wonder if aanet forum even has the latest version of the software and patches. It wasn't given much priority for a very long time and maybe that hasn't changed. The host server also needs to be patched... maybe that's where the malware got in??

Could be.
My theory is that it came from one of the forums.
aaNet or the Eftel forum.
The Eftel forum is very old,some phpbb2 version.Full with spammers.
Could be one of them a hacker? Yes.
Because no one takes care of that site the hacker have had the time to install the dangerous hack.

Huh.... Seems our forum survived ....:silent
It was a close call to destroy everything...
No more upgrade attempts while the new version is in a beta stage.

FWIW,

A couple of hours ago I logged in and when I selected the "New Posts" menu item I was directed to a page that I'd never seen before with a '404' error. :eek

The problem appears to have been fixed now though. :hope

A few files disappeared while transferring folders from place to place,
that is the reason for the 404. There was no such directory...

The new forum is under testing.
Quite a lot of bugs,it's not ready to convert our forums into it.
ATM it's beta 4, few more versions to come...

The CMS(Home)is not functioning,you will end up with an error.

The testforum is up and running with little bugs.This version still not ready to convert to.
The folder is password protected. With IE8 I have to supply the name and password twice to reach the forum.
With FF getting worse.
With Opera is the worst.About 10 times came up the login window.

You may visit and do some spamming.(An older version of this forum,your username and password working)
Please do not delete anything from the CMS (HOME).

Password and username to break through the password protection: It has gone.
