Easy to peel boiled eggs

Power on is push the switch up. When all water has evapourated the unit increases in temperature causing the bi-metal switch to click down and disconnecting power.
I wouldn't trust that.
A kettle almost burned down my home because it did not switch off automagically.
What a mess it caused...

Ahh - but that's a kettle and you wre very lucky that time.

I know the type and occasionally they don't switch off. They have a totally different system to our goog cooker other than it's thermal.

We have never had it stay on. The only issue we have had was it not heating properly because of the corroded (burnt) contacts that I mentioned above.

That is my experiences with kettles too, at least. The possibility is there of a malfunction - but its a little different to the cheap chinese egg cookers.

Your bi-metal strip is the usual safety feature. Sunbeam have competent engineers, or at least they did have some once upon a time. I expect this egg cooker was not vetted in any way at all by them, except by the title in the catalogue and the price level.

What would you do? I like the way the cooker makes me 6 eggs for a snack :hehe: but I could complain and get a recall of these things underway. I guess I'll check if there is another Chris model for sale, or another less dangerous one on the market for a 1/2 dozen yeggs.

What I did today is buy a digital countdown timer from Bunnings and I had intended to set it for a countdown of 10 minutes to turn the egg cooker off. It's still in the package at present.

I'm been busy testing my Kogan agora TV which just failed yesterday.
  • Switchee-on and only a glow from the LED panel backlight appears.
  • Ditto when every item is unplugged, and it's been unpowered by the switch for ages.
  • Hitting the plus-button while booting to reset the thing, gives this message.

Right.
I used to have a reliable Ronson kettle about 30 years ago.

At midnight I woke up that someone is banging my door.
Thick, black smoke in my home...
What's wrong???
There is fire in your home!
Where???
Nothing is burning...
Then checking the kitchen.

There was a hole on the table under the kettle.
It almost burned itself through the plastic top and the table.

Freshly painted walls were black.
Curtains, venetian blinds black...
Everything black.

The flat was already sold, I was waiting for the settlement.
Had to paint the walls, clean the venetian blinds...

Grrr... But I survived, thanks for my neighbor.
(Smoke detectors were rare that time)

That's the huge PITA ,once you're not going to cark it.

It was a good thing that misi lived that day.

Speaking about surviving: I once slept over at a house on a trundle bed and the lady put the heater on in the early AM as it was Winter, and went out to the kitchen presumably to make a 1/2 dozen boiled yeggs in the egg cooker.

The only drawback to this is that I'd neatly draped my woolen jumper over some furniture before going to bed. It turned out to be the heater that my jumper was neatly draped over and I awoke coughing my lung out, with the room filled with black smoke. I somehow got over to the window and hung my head outside for a while - just breathing. I must be allergic that that stuff.
