That's interesting Guess. It was 17 cpl when I started on the road - but closer to 27 cpl in the year I was thinking of.
Thanks for finding that.

The price of fuel is just amazing.

HONDA N600 (1969 - 1972) Description & History

This is the first Honda car to be imported in the USA, the N600 is the successor of the smaller N360. The car was technologically advanced for its time with alloy engine that could go all the way to 9000 rpm. Due t the car's relative small weight, it managed to be rather spunky in traffic, the only downside being the notorious weak brakes. [Bullsheet. Mine had power-assist front disks] Production ceased in 1972, being replaced by the first version of the Civic.

Some good reading on the shaker --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_XY_Falcon_GT

The 351 Cleveland 4V engine produced:

torque 380 lb·ft (520 N·m) at 3400 rpm
  • brake horsepower
    • XY GT 300 bhp (224 kW; 304 PS) at 5400 rpm[2]
    • XY GTHO Phase III 350 - 380 bhp (276 -291 kW) at 5400 rpm[2]
  • Four-speed all-synchromesh manual with three-speed FMX automatic available
    • The XY GTHO Phase III was four-speed all-synchromesh manual only
    Performance:

    Top Speed: 227 km/h (141 mph) @ 6150rpm 0 - 60 mph - 6.5 seconds 0 – 100 km - 6.8 seconds Standing 1/4 mile (400m) - 15.4 seconds

    Bathurst (6.172 km - 1938-1986) (6.213 km - 1987-present) Fastest Lap time: 2:36.5 by Allan Moffat (1972 Hardie-Ferodo 500 - Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III)
The Phase III GTHO is in incredibly high demand with collectors and investors. Good examples have been sold for prices in excess of A$700,000. Due to this demand, a small production run, and 'fewer than 100 remaining

Neat little machine Chris. Was this in Melb or up Broken Hill way?

My first bike had a 7 litre tank. :happy Suzuki TS125 from 1974 - filled that pretty cheaply also.
In Melbourne. I lived in a bungalow in Elsternwick when this pic was taken, my address was Abercrobie St at the corner of Miller St.

My first bike was a Honda CB350 twin and I remember putting 20c worth in it once when I was short of pennies. The guy took pity and filled it, about $1.20 :-D

Anyhoo, famaliar building from Google Earth Street View...

I drove that car for years, bought it new in '71, up to the Hill a couple of times, Merimbula, most of Victoria, I eventually passed it on to mate about '80. It did me well for a little car. :satisfied

:think:I could get a noo one now but I only drive 1000 km in a year. Probably closer to 500.

Like yours, my small 1100 car was a goer and took me everywhere. Much fun.
