Re the cheap printer,
ADF but not duplex feed,
and the scanner is crap. 1200. 1200 x what? 1200 x 600?
2400x4800 is usual.

I wouldn't complain for $19 if I just wanted to print some stuff cheaply though...

It's typical of companies to release stuff with crap specs for bargain prices.

WRT faxing misi - I don't use incoming faxes at all, and I'm just mentioning this coz outgoing faxes can be sent using an internet fax service portal, which I've done (for free).

I turfed the modem card with the fax feature due to that.

I don't use incoming faxes at all,
My machine is off because of the spam received in it.
I don't have the money to pay for the ink.(actually some painted film)

Is it possible to use it without a phone connection, through the Net?
(Because I'm thinking to disconnect my phone service, using VOIP for calling and receiving)

Yes, the websites that provide a fax service are internet based. You upload your images etc and send it.

There are paid services which are reasonable and free ones that want your first born (email).

My phone with Optus is voip based - although they don't say so - and I also have a voip adapter to use mynetfone on the Whirlpool saver plan.

You only pay for the calls/sms you send on that MNF plan with no ongoing fee - so I have two phone lines, and only the optus one has a number to ring in on.

Why don't they just put their efforts into making a better one?

...
I could use it only for faxing, provided there is an inbuilt modem in it...
...but my old Panasonic fax machine is still capable to use once or twice in a year.
Unless you are on the NBN, FAX doesn't work through it, only through POTS.

I'm on the NBN, it works.:thumbs_up
Is that a standard garden variety FAX type machine? I assume through an adapter (or phone port) to your router and then to the NBN connector?

How does it deal with the connection/Rx/Tx tones that a standard garden variety FAX type machine uses on POTS.

My last contact with a Tel$tra CSR informed me that FAX required copper pair and won't work on the NBN*

New Bloody Nuisance

It's a Panasonic KX-FC175 phone/answering machine/fax
(Found this pic on the Net)

From the Telstra modem(router) to the filter then to the phone with cable.
When there is no Internet there is no phone as well.

No idea...

Don't believe them. It's working fine without the copper.

(Maybe I don't have NBN??? :think::headache:)

OKies, looks garden variety.

Soooo FAX/Phone to filter to modem?/router to ? Phone socket? CAT5/6 socket? Huge air gap?
Lots of wishful thinking
?

When there is no Internet there is no phone as well.
So it's DSL or NBN... at least we have established that. :laughbut

Now it's as clear as a bowl of pea soup. :rolleyes

That was sarcasm.
Hard to get this speed with DSL:

I have two of them.

Worthless if the Internet service is not working.

I was quite sure you knew the pitfalls misi - future readers (from the Mars Colony?) may need to know the info.

Keeping one charged is a bit of a nuisance - you don't want to have one bar left and have the call drop out during the advice, which can be a lengthy call if something serious is happening.

The good thing these days is that it's quite likely to be able to borrow one from next door, if really needed.
