'Unlimited' does mean Unlimited

According to the article in the New York Times, AT&T is getting fined $100,000,000 for its doublespeak redefinition of the word "Unlimited". The FCC says AT&T failed to adequately notify its customers that they could receive speeds slower than the normal network speeds AT&T advertised and that these actions violated the FCC's 2010 Open Internet Order. “Unlimited means unlimited,” Travis LeBlanc, the F.C.C.’s chief of the enforcement bureau, said in a statement on Wednesday. “As today’s action demonstrates, the commission is committed to holding accountable those broadband providers who fail to be fully transparent about data limits.”

It would be nice to see the customers get a slab of the takings.

Down Under there are just as dodgy dealings, as we all know.

It's a slap on the wrist, isn't it? How many times a 100M fine did the company profit from, over the years?

I had a dealing with sloptus - when their plan summary said one thing, then when I signed up they said another thing. It took a few months of their stupid emails before I invoked Saint TIO and a higherup person was involved - and she couldn't stop the extra charges on my account but gave me credit to cover me for the 2 year contract.

It's not just ISPs - but so many places don't do the right thing.

It is. You are expecting unlimited and you get limited...

In my case those unlimited limited plans started with good old AOL.

Good move. These days the whole 'download' thing is getting risky - do you others think that too?

Government gets metadata kept for a couple of years, it will be datamined in the future when various $Sollywood claims are made and complained about - then some people will get a slap on the wrist about the size of 1/2 a house.

There are some ways around it, but maybe it's just as well that I'm over the whole download-every-hour-that-I'm-online thing.

I do download a few youtube music segments for the LOTH which are old music videos from the B&W and early colour days mostly. Gerhard Wendland. Look him up. Some nice crooners from back in earlier times.

I don't believe so.
They have to warn you first about the consequences of your download habits.
