Looking for a new car. The one we have is aging. 15 years old.

We were looking at Hondas,Mazdas and Toyotas.

We did not like the Mazdas.
We liked some of the Hondas but we don't have 40K+ for the models we like.
We did like the design of Toyota's Prius but 60K...:eek

So far there is only one model from Toyota which looks not too bad for the money they ask for it.

1.8 litre dual VVT-i engine... What does it mean? :eek

A new car? False economy IMHO.

Spend $5000 now on a 2nd hand model and replace it in 10 years with another one. :satisfied

The only time that's a bad idea is if you get a lemon...

Our car is just that much worth on the market now. Should I keep it for another 10 years? :eek2

Starting to drink much more then a few years ago...
Repair this and that...1-2K a year...
For 14 years we had to replace only the battery.
If we buy a new one now it might serve us all in our life...

That's a lot of repairs... mine has had maybe $700 repairs in 10 years. Not counting tires, batteries or servicing.

@misi:

VVT-i, or Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Toyota, similar in performance to the BMW's VANOS. The Toyota VVT-i system replaces the Toyota VVT offered starting in 1991 on the 5-valve per cylinder 4A-GE engine. The VVT system is a 2-stage hydraulically controlled cam phasing system.
VVT-i, introduced in 1996, varies the timing of the intake valves by adjusting the relationship between the camshaft drive (belt, scissor-gear or chain) and intake camshaft. Engine oil pressure is applied to an actuator to adjust the camshaft position. Adjustments in the overlap time between the exhaust valve closing and intake valve opening result in improved engine efficiency.[1] Variants of the system, including VVTL-i, Dual VVT-i, VVT-iE, and Valvematic, have followed.

You would not make a bad deal!:happy
Unfortunately you cannot bid, it has been sold to my son.:satisfied
Another 5 years it should run smoothly.

Ahh, lucky him! :happy

I should think about replacing mine too - it's 1986 model ford but it has served me well. It's looking a big shabby now (no garage for it).
