Samsung disables Windows update

A file called Disable_Windowsupdate.exe — probably malware, right? It's actually a "helper" utility from Samsung, for which their reasoning is: "When you enable Windows updates, it will install the Default Drivers for all the hardware no laptop which may or may not work. For example if there is USB 3.0 on laptop, the ports may not work with the installation of updates. So to prevent this, SW Update tool will prevent the Windows updates." Too bad that the solution means disabling all critical security updates as well.

Norty Samsung!

It's a crazy way for a company to behave.
Yes, it is...but:
No more Windows updates?
That's a good news! :rolleyes
I really wish if I had a Samsung and my Windows updates were disabled just now.
My sound system completely died because of the last Windows update.

No sound.
Hmmm...What can be the problem?
Monitor off. (It has inbuilt speakers)
Monitor on.
No sound.

PC off and on.
No sound.

PC AND monitor off then on.
No sound.

Trying with Yahoo Messenger and Skype.
There isn't a microphone connected.

Hmmm...Strange...Is the mic damaged as well?
Changing the USB port for it: still the mic is missing.

What the hell is wrong?

Then I remembered that this morning there was an update from Windows.
Maybe that is the norty one?

Uninstalling the last update took about 5 minutes.

Restart.

Sound is working!!!

ATM backing up the whole system, waiting for Windows 10, maybe that will be more reliable...(Ready to pay for the Pro version to be able to choose updates)

I see! Microsoft have drivers available for hardware but in my experience they don't download except as optional downloads - I need to select them.

You could test it after your backup and do a manual update, without any optional updates,
to see if the sound and mic is borked again.

It's a security update:
Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3074219)

Download size: 17.7 MB - 17.8 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Dunno...
Which option is less painless?
Install > Uninstall
or
Setting a new Restore point > Install > Reset

Set a new Restore point > Install > uninstall.

The restore point is just in case the uninstall gives you a problem.

Learned that the hard way once. Thank goodness for sys restore
I wonder what happens when the system is really screwed and cannot load Windows at all?
Can you set System Restore to another drive to save all the changes?

Before you shoot:
Do you have notices that updates are available?
Perhaps you disabled the updates fully and that's why they don't offer W10 for you.
