On Ch31 (digital44) and soon Foxtel.

Has anyone caught this show? I've watched since it's inception over 2 years ago, I say that because we moved out of the Ch31 coverage area and now catch it via Facebook, Youtube and their webiste randomaussies.com.au

Really light and entertaining - 3 guys travelling Aus looking for and chatting with a random person who would give them the time. Everyone filmed so far are very interesting in their own way with an entertaining story about themselves, their family, town, something.

What is our show about….
Everybody has a story. We all live interesting lives, even if we don’t know it. Random Aussies is about finding that average Australian person and discovering that their story is unique and intriguing. It’s unscripted, ill-prepared and a whole lot of fun! Join Jamie, Luke and Paul as they travel the country, searching for another Random Aussie.

I have chatted with Jamie (the host) over the internet since RA's beginnings, we haven't met before, but he always said he'd love to catch up with Mossie and I one day, and today was it. Nearly 2 hours drive, stayed and chatted for 5 4 hours. Really interesting too, we have some background similarities including health problems, guitars & music, and Broken Hill. But he's much more than that, drummer, guitarist, musician, producer, I'm just scratching the surface.

It was interesting to say the least, both ways, we had a lot to tell as he did with us, he is a great listener, asking for details, telling details, and a fantastic sense of humour too. Not forgetting his lovely wife too. She is almost as a much a story relater as he is. The met when they were both 15 3 decades ago. A story in itself. Also he is a lucky man, 14 years ago he had a kidney transplant after the indignity of years of dialysis. The 'normal' survival rate is 6 - 10 years.

I knew about CH31's problems and have supported it through facebook pages, online petitions, etc. even though we can't get it here, but we did in Upwey. It's a capital city and Geelong thing only with roots in RMIT. He enlightened us to the governement's moves and reasoning behind it after the commercial channels background fighting because of viewers choosing to watch it so they were losing sponsorship revenue. So for people like Jamie, to get a show like his off the ground you have to sell it to a commercial channel, not the community based one. It's a sad thing for Australia when you see, or have seen, the quality of productions on 31.

Ch31/44 is now defunct, politics has killed it. The only independent TV in Aus, gone.
Wot you talkin' about, Willis?

It says that it's digital now, and no mention of gone. Don't you get digital, if you make an antenna from snake skins:?

:wink2:

I am not a fan of TV these days - so haven't seen the show you mention. It sounds like you enjoyed it and the company of the crew. Did they interview you and Mossie to show on air??

I did not find it interesting on the beginning, so didn't watch that CH at all.
Maybe I should...
There have been many excellent programs on CH31, watch it while you can on free-to-air.

If ya reads the stuff and googles about it you'll see wot ahm talkin' 'bout.

Yup, we sure do get digital but as with most of Australia it's rebroadcast through local transponders, yours is through TXA* (I have been in their building at the base of the old CH0(10) tower up Mt Dandenong)

Ours is controlled (what we are allowed to see) by WINTV (locally) and we get all digital FTA channels of 2, 7, 9, 10, 28 but nothing else. :tearful

The first time I spotted it by chance was over 2 years ago and couldn't believe how entertaining it was.

And no, no interview. After the years of me contacting (and being contacted by) the guys with my thoughts, help with their original website (Not secured, open for hacking, pilfering personal stuff, etc.) and general feedback an online friendship formed where Jamie (The boss?) vowed to visit us one day.

When we moved out here with no CH31 reception Jamie always sent me links when new stuff was on the web, youtube, etc.

All in all, he and his wife are lovely people and we all got on great.

On the 10th of September 2014, the Minister for Communications, Malcolm Turnbull, announced his proposal to not renew Community Television operators' Apparatus Licence beyond 2015. To support this proposal the Minister declared that currently vacant spectrum (the so called sixth channel) would be required to test and trial a new broadcasting compression standard (MPEG-4) that is more efficient and could have the potential to carry more services. Community TV would have to make way for these trials to occur. In his announcement the Minister stated that the “best outcome” for community TV would be to move the entirety of their service to the internet at that time. --more--

Between the lines it say the commercial channels wanted it gone.
