New iPhone in September

The next iPhone will probably be revealed to the world on September 7. And maybe a watch, too.
...

Expect the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus -- or whatever they may be called -- to be unveiled by CEO Tim Cook and company. The current rumor mill points to nearly identical external designs to the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, improved cameras (with a dual-lens system on the larger iPhone), and -- most controversially -- no headphone jack.

The event would also offer the opportunity for Apple to repromote iOS 10, the update to its mobile operating system first unveiled in June. The free upgrade is expected to be rolled out to hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads later in September.

Good news. I hope iOS 10 will be better than 9.

The European Commission claims Apple paid an effective corporate tax rate of just 0.005 percent in 2014.

The European Union on Tuesday hit Apple with a $14.5 billion tax penalty, ruling its deal with Ireland was illegal.

EU antitrust regulators say the 13 billion euro payment to Ireland could be slashed if other countries, including the US, demand the company pay more within their own jurisdictions, the European Commission announced in a statement.

"Member states cannot give tax benefits to selected companies -- this is illegal under EU state aid rules," Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said.

Apple is one of many US technology companies that have benefited from stashing cash overseas. That maneuver lets the companies avoid paying hefty taxes they could face by bringing the cash back to the US.

In this case, the iPhone maker reached a deal with Ireland to locate much of its earnings in the country in return for hiring there . That deal let Apple pay a much smaller tax rate than the 35 percent level in the US. Apple keeps more than 90 percent of its cash overseas.

An Apple spokeswoman wasn't immediately available for comment.

I don't agree with that penalty.

The dot is in the wrong place.

Should be 145 billion.

I'm less concerned about tax evasion in a dollar sense than abuse of workers to create their gold plated cash cow, that they then avoid paying tax on.

I have Apple products and I like the product, but the morals of the company leaves me most underwhelmed.

Has anyone else tried to ignore the iOS update loading on their iphone? Not only does it annoy you again and again without any way to shut the annoyance off, there are *two* prompts every time that I decline to install it.

They will be like Windows 10 soon where there is no option to defer an update, and every person's computer that breaks due to a faulty update is up sp1t creek without a paddle. It happened very recently to many people with a faulty Windows 10 update.

It did not happen to me yet.
When there is an update I wait for a few days then install it manually.
It doesn't want to update automatically.
Perhaps there is something in my settings to prevent it?

This time did not wait, installed it immediately, manually, clicking on the update.
