Her old lappy is getting on a bit now, 1st gen i5 430M ( 35 watts, 17.1 GB/s ) processor with 4GB RAM and is about 6 years old. Takes forever to boot up ( if it boots up at all.. sometimes needs to be power cycled a few times before it boots up )

So I bought her a new Lappy for our 31st anniversary.

Has a bigger 17" screen and I got the full HD option 1080P.
Has the new 6th gen i5 6200U ( 15 watts, 34.1 GB/s ). Half the power and twice the speed !

She hardly uses her lappy now cause it's so slow.

Just need to figure out the best way to transfer data files to the new Lappy. :?

I haz a tip 4 U to try...

1) backup a system image of the lappy HDD with all partitions
- boot up an acronis cdrom/usb (download one from shady places - like me)
- or Linux cdrom with free backup software.

2) Do the backup to a USB HDD - or over the LAN to a HDD.
- Make two copies - on different media.

3) Write the system image to an SSD.
- (remove large media files if practical)

4) Replace the Laptop HDD with the SSD

5) Hopefully it will be running fairly well, and quickly.

6) Restoring the laptop to the default OS on the SSD may also improve speed.

Do they have USB 2 or 3?
Transfer the data files to a 32 GB USB stick from the old lappy, then from there transfer them to the new lappy.

At the moment, after 7 attempts, I can't get her Lappy to boot up.. :tearful

The battery died a long time ago ( 2 years maybe ? ). Only runs when plugged in, and has been OK running like that till about 4 weeks ago.

Finally booted on the 9th attempt. I'm really not sure what is causing this.
Did you try booting into Windows or a CDROM/USB?

Eventviewer will have information that could be useful.
Does it have Teamviewer for me to have a gander? PM the number and temp PW if so.
