Greetings from the Internet Explorer Team! We are nearing the launch of Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 and we will be making it available for the general public to download and test. IE8 Beta 1 is focused on the developer community, with the goal of gaining valuable feedback to improve Internet Explorer 8 during the development process. We have identified you as a qualified beta tester and we would like to offer an opportunity to join our limited technical beta program for Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1. Participation in the Technical Beta will enable you to evaluate a common release of Windows Internet Explorer 8, the ability to submit feedback, post bug reports, download software answer surveys on product quality as well as vote on top bugs filed by others from the technical beta program. This is a very exclusive program, by invitation only. The only way to submit feedback is to enroll in the Windows Internet Explorer 8 Technical Beta program. As such, we would be happy to have your participation. To accept this invitation and to apply to become a member of this program, follow this link: http://connect.microsopft.com/InvitationUse.aspx?ProgramID=2038 (If this link does not work for you, copy the full link and paste it into the Web browser address bar.) Follow the steps shown to you by that program to apply to become an active participant. You may be asked to take a survey, or submit other preliminary information. To report a problem or to ask a question, visit the Contact Us page (found at the bottom of every page). We hope to see you in the technical beta! Best regards. The Internet Explorer Team

It isn't addressed to me.

Internet Explorer 8 takes the Web experience beyond the page and introduces a new way to seamlessly experience the power of the Web whether you are a Web developer writing to standards, or an end user discovering a new online service. This beta release is available to everyone, but is primarily for Web developers and designers to test the new tools, layout engine, and programming enhancements.

Don't do it! :eek2

I dunno but a fellow I know who beta tests for MS said not to install it on a work or main home machine - it's basically for testing atm.

If you really want to try it ?? you could create a restore point first, in system restore. That way if it craps out your machine you should be able to restore it to before Ie8 was installed. This is not a guarantee however and something may still screw up :eek2

I really-really want to try it!
I like to try new things!

Because this beta is in its very early stages,ATM I take Foxi's advice.
In one month time I'll follow your advice (system restore)and download it again and install it no matter what! :kissy

I don't know why,I can't get used to FF,prefer IE. :eek:eek:eek
They are promising a lot now, will be good boys, follow the International guidelines with this version.(Compability with FF,Opera, etc.)
(Perhaps they don't want to pay another billion penalty ?)

On Wednesday, Microsoft announced new security features within the upcoming release of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. The features are designed to combat the rising tide of drive-by downloads and malicious scripts contained within carefully crafted links embedded in e-mail and Web pages. Most of the new features require systems to be running Windows Vista SP1 or Windows XP SP3.
...
The public Beta 2 for Internet Explorer is expected sometime in August 2008.

Right click the pic > Zoom image. I think it's a default capability... not sure.

EDIT: Just looked, it's an add-in. Here are the ones I use...

adblock with the adblock filter set remove 80% of the adverts from the web. Flash block stops flash ads etc from displaying and you just click for them to run.

Some of the add-ins I use are not certified for Firefox 3 so this hack will allow you to use any add-in:

http://lifehacker.com/355973/make-your-extensions-work-with-the-firefox-3-beta

Code:
    * Type about:config into Firefox's address bar and click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
    * Right-click anywhere. Choose New>Boolean. Make the name of your new config value extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false.
    * Make another new boolean pair called extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.
    * Restart Firefox.
