What do you think misi? Do you like them?

We have eaten the GeeVee brand sweet and sour gerkhins for more than 20 years. Coles stopped stocking them. I got some from woolworths but they are really revolting, nothing like they have always tasted like, they have a really sharp vinegar taste. I wondered if any of you noticed too.

I spoke to a Hungarian lady and she recommended the ones above.

I really don't know how the Hungarian sweet and sour tastes, stopped eating it a long time ago.
Buying instead the Indian made sweet and sour from Coles or Safeway.
Aldi? No.

I wondered if they would be an acquired taste.

Gherkins? Which brand are they?

I've found that the ones that were introduced to replace GeeVee (same jar) is too much like just sweet and vinegar without the body of the mustard seed and capsicum taste that GeeVee used to have. Aldi gherkins are similar to the coles ones now.

Surprise,surprise...sorry for the misinformation :tearful:tearful:tearful
Information from my wife: We are using Aldi gherkins now...

Seems they changed the ingredients...

After visiting brother in Queensland, I asked/told? Mrs Okee to buy a jar of gherkins. It's so long since I tasted them. We had them on bikkies up there and I was hooked again.
Mine are "Spring Gully" sweet spiced gherkin rounds. They're the mob who make pickles, etc. :happy
Haven't tried them yet. Thanks for reminding me....lol.

"Spring Gully" - I haven't noticed that brand okee.

I did email the GeeVee company and got a reply today - they said some jars from that batch were not right and offered to send me 4 jars to replace mine.

Woot! :wave

I should email Aldi... The gherkins on the top of the jar taste awful...

That's pretty good of them Foxi, just to offer a few tasters and acknowledge there was a problem.

I'm still waiting to be contacted by phone by Mcdonalds after I had a 30mm long chicken bone in one of my mouthfuls of chicken burger and that was reported to the manager at the time 2 weeks ago tonight.

I occasionaly eat gherkins, there is a jar in the fridge I should attack soon. Along with the pickled cocktail onions and pickled mussles. I find them more enjoyable in the warmer months.

Yes, better than the people I contacted about the oysters (John West). They were very dry and although they replaced them they gave me nothing for my time.

I bet they won't reply unless you contact them again. The slack tarts.

Speaking of slack tarts, I have a TV set from Aldi that has line audio output. I connected it to an external amp and speakers and the TV plays fine, but the PVR inside the TV doesn't play through the speakers. It only works on the internal speakers. tempoaustralia has been ignoring my emails, after an initial reply where they misunderstood the problem.

I haven't tried pickled mussels. I do have them in oil in a tin though, as well as the oysters.

Yep, we have smoked mussels in oil in the cupboard, used to have them on toast, with melted tasty cheese over the top.
