Dear Internode,
What can I say? Thank you very much!
Grrr... Must be my little grandson the big downloader!

Dear Internode customer,

This is an automated message - generated at 31/08/2007 10:21:52 We have sent
this message in order to assist you to manage your account usage.

Your current downloads for the account ****@adsl.on.net have exceeded 70%
of your download allowance this month.

At the time this message was generated, you had downloaded 7257 Mb. Your
monthly download allowance is currently 10000 Mb.

No excess usage fees are incurred on this plan; however your download rate
will be reduced if you exceed 100% of your download quota before your next
rollover date (17/9/2007).

Please note that Internode's shaping scheme has changed.

You do not need to take any action, however if you exceed 90% of your monthly
quota we'll send you another email as a reminder. Once you've used 100% of
your quota, we will apply 'shaping' which will reduce the speed of your
service until your next rollover date. After 3,000 Mbytes of shaped traffic,
additional access constraints may be applied.

You have the option of :

* reducing your downloads (eg by disabling peer to peer filesharing or
other high download services); or
* purchasing additional data blocks for an instant quota upgrade; or
* upgrading to a plan with a higher monthly quota (though this only takes
effect at your next rollover date).

Please read this page for further information :
www.internode.on.net/datablocks

You can purchase additional data blocks, or schedule an upgrade to a higher
quota plan, by visiting our Accounts section at

come back to aaNet aaSoon !!! :silent
There was a little hope for that a few months ago,Deb.
ADSL2.
They are(aaNet) very hard headed, they want profit.
Bundling is the way to get it.
I am just as hard headed as they are.
No bundling with Optus. So far I am satisfied with Telstra's service.

I applied for adsl2 but then decided not to go through with it when accepted. I will sit on the 8Mbit account and decide what to do when that is withdrawn.

I think that you are right.
Looks like Optus will be the only bandwidth supplier.(Powertel has been fully dropped.)
Anything wrong, the whole system will go down.

Why did you decide to go against it?

My exchange has just become active, but the 12 months puts me off as I can't plan that far ahead. And I'd also have to put a little more research into Optus.

Hey Spyke, what's the O/S speeds like?

Hey misi, what's the difference between Telstra and Optus as far as your phone line is concerned? I can't see a difference No bundling with Optus. So far I am satisfied with Telstra's service.

Phone:
I did never ever had any problem with my phone.Reliable.

ADSL: Once I had a major problem with it.
Reported to aaNet.As soon as they reported it, Telstra started to fix it. They replaced the port and since then it is working continuously.
Couple of weeks ago I saw in the Current Affair that how difficult it is to achieve something from Optus.

I have to deal with Optus soon,I'm scared already.
(It has nothing to do with ADSL or phone)

The 12 month contract was a bit of an annoyance to me too, and I heard that Optus cap your upload speed - not sure if that is true. I wouldn't get any faster speeds with ADSL2+ so I decided to stay put.

The contract(12 months) is a bull, atleast I think you will find it is. As it will cost you $100 termination whether in or out of a contract with Optus ADSL2+. It's worth asking about though.

Give me some sites you are interested in and I will find out what speed is like, though bear in mind Exetel isn't the fastest network out there.
However I seem to average around 10 to 12 Mbit on speed tests and upto 1800KB/s from GOOD servers MS etc.

Optus cap the speed to something like 21000/829. I am only 500meters(cable length) from the exchange and have never got sync higher than 21000/829

Yes, good point.

I don't have any particular sites except I'm getting more into P2P and I have relatives O/S that I want to use skype more frequently. Other than that It's random but I find DL to be limited by the servers of each site, even Australian sites don't seem to max out my connection. I recently had to DL some large files from a software company in Australia and the max speed I got was 400 Kbps which is slow especially as this company never does have a lot of people DL from their servers.

829 upload is not to be sneezed at

That's not bad upload, what are other providers upload speeds reported to be? I understand annex-m goes slightly higher. I thought this might help my skype connection but am doubtful as my connection does not max out now.

I'm pretty sure my Dynalink modem does annex M.

Most modems(new or fairly new), now, can facilitate Annex M, it wont be long before it is standard.

Dane, if you are on an 8mbit plan, I don't think you will notice any difference in performance with skype. Possibly you could try setting up some QOS for skype, so that it gets as much bandwidth as possible, when it needs it. If your modem supports that.

As for upload speed, I think powertell/iinet have around 1100 and internode is or has trialled annexM which gives you approx 2400 up. I think.
