A record number of Australian are voting early ahead of Saturday's federal election.
So far 715,000 people have cast their vote at an early polling station.
That is up from 446,000 people at the same stage of the last election.
In 2010, there were 1.5 million pre-poll votes and nearly 1 million postal votes.
"We're certainly trending above that at this stage," said Phil Diak from the Australian Electoral Commission.
Elections are always held on a Saturday because traditionally that is the day most people are not at work or church.

Have you voted yet?
I did not.

I noticed that more were voting early. I'll wait till Saturday....then I might even put a big cross on the papers; but that is not really the way to go, even though I feel like it.

There's nothing worse than when you go to a polling station then being accosted and having people shove how to vote for them under your nose. :furious

Irrespective of whatever party. They are all equally rude. :thumbs_down

I'll be surprised if Labor gets back in, but I sure hope they do. They are a bit inept in ways but the other mob have no sense of community worth and values.

Keating won an impossible to win election...so let's hope that Rudd can repeat it now.
