Will it make any difference ?

Received this email a little while ago, don't know that it will make much difference, but we will wait and see.

Dear: Me

This email is to advise that your ADSL service that is currently connected to the Exetel NSW ADSL2 POP will be migrated over to the new VIC ADSL2 POP.

This change will mean that there is a new IP address that will be assigned to your account. Your current IP address will be migrated over to the new IP range

-----------------------------------------------

Changes you will need to make:

-----------------------------------------------

For most of you there will be no need to make any changes to your service.

If your modem is set to a dynamic IP address then the Exetel authentication server will just assign you the new IP address and your service will continue to work.

For customers who have a static IP address set in their modem / router, they will need to update this to the new IP address which can be seen in your user facilities.

The change effects residential grade services only (No SHDSL or full business grade services will be changed).

If you have any further questions please reply to this email and a support staff member will assist you.

Regards,

Exetel Support

Misi, can you let me know when my IP changes :happy

I will ! :happy

You do have a strange IP :

Your IP is ATM:
The IP Address is: 220.***.**.***
The host name is: 140.**.***.***.exetel.com.au

Instead of:
The IP Address is: 220.***.**.***
The host name is: 220.***.**.***.exetel.com.au

Spyke you do have a PM with your new IP address:
The IP Address is: 220.***.**.**
The host name is: 47.**.***.***.exetel.com.au

Just as strange as the earlier one...

Thanks misi
They are just a strange ISP :poke

On another note, they are using the same ip range for qld and vic, so every website that finds my location thinks I am in qld :tearful

Still I'm getting good speeds and a steady connection, so am happy to stay with them for the time being.

The IP range is allocated to an ISP merely based in a state Spyke.

AFAIK the IP lookup will not show a state - but the reverse DNS lookup of your IP address (the one misi shows starting with 140 which indicates another range) may be what the websites are using.
