It’s a film about sex addiction, so it surely comes as no surprise that Lars von Trier’s latest film features plenty of gratuitous sex scenes. But while the film does in fact feature real sex, none of the principle actors are involved. How? The actors (like Shia LaBeouf, Charlotte Gainsbourg or Stacy Martin) would film the scene - complete with clothes - in specific, choreographed positions. Then, porn doubles would film the same scene while doing the actual deed. The end result sees the midsection of the actor’s porn double ‘fused’ with their head and legs using CGI to create what appears to be, a seamless, unsimulated sex scene. Clever!
