Critical Stop

Does anyone else have random beeps from their Windows computer?

"Critical Stop" is a sound event which Windows plays after an error occurs. It's a nasty noise, and I changed the wav file for this one to something less jarring...

...because like many others in the google link, my Windows 8.1 plays the sound at random times such as when copying files, and archiving files, and even when a command line media player finishes playing a different sound.

Others have a worse problem and it plays endlessly at 10 second intervals.
Anyway, I disabled that sound event completely now.

It never happened to me before recent months. The link says it goes back to Windows 7 and Windows XP and still affects Windows 10.

I've been ignoring it for months and just had a google...

Guess I've been lucky so far...
I've not been able to get W10 to install on my old W7 machine. I did successfully install W10 on it when it first was released, but the graphics kept crashing so I reverted back to W7. Since the big update late last year, I have tried numerous time to upgrade back to W10 but each time it failed and self reverted back to W7. Tried different ways to install it but always the same result. So it is a W7 till it dies machine.
Did the old Toshie Lappy last month and it upgraded to W10 just fine. Runs nicely now.
